Not every production has its own studio, and even those that do sometimes need extra rooms: during busy periods, for projects in Munich or for specific recordings. Production companies, dubbing companies, agencies, voice actors, podcast teams and musicians all face the same question: which recording studio really meets the requirements? A studio is much more than a room with a microphone. In this article we show what to look for when you rent a recording studio in Munich, so the session runs smoothly and the result meets professional standards.
1. Acoustics: the foundation of every recording
The best equipment is of little use if the room isn’t right. A professional recording booth is acoustically designed so that no unwanted reflections, reverb or outside noise end up on the recording. With voice recordings, voice-over and dubbing in particular, every flaw is audible: a dry, clean voice can later be placed into any scene, while a reverberant room can never be fully removed. Also make sure the recording booth and control room are separate, so that directors and clients can talk freely without disturbing the take.
2. Control room and monitoring
The control room is where decisions are made: which take works, whether the emphasis is right, whether the mix holds up. That requires precise, calibrated monitoring. If you work for film, TV or cinema, check whether the studio can monitor in surround (5.1) as well as stereo. We have two main control rooms, one of them with a 5.1 surround system, plus two additional rooms for editing and mixing.
3. Equipment and connectivity
High-quality preamps and converters are the basis for a clear, detailed recording. Our control room offers up to 20 high-quality inputs with first-class preamplification and precise RME conversion. Flexibility matters too: can you easily connect your own equipment? At our studio, you can plug your laptop or your own device straight into the studio system. And if the director, client or talent can’t be on site, we connect in high quality via SessionLink and Source-Connect.
4. With or without an engineer?
Renting a studio doesn’t mean you have to handle the technology yourself. At our studio, technical support from experienced sound engineers is included. They know the rooms and equipment inside out, prepare the session and ensure quality control on site. This lets you focus entirely on content, performance and direction. We also provide recording engineers for dubbing, voice-over and ADR productions in external studios.
5. The right rooms for your project
Different productions need different spaces. Our studio complex in Munich covers around 300 m² with several specialised areas:
- Two main control rooms, one with a 5.1 surround system, for recording, direction and mixing
- Two recording booths for voice, vocal and band recordings
- Two editing and mixing rooms for editing and mixing in parallel to recording
- A video studio for podcasts and video formats
- A large lounge, ideal for workshops, format development and breaks with clients
You can get an impression of the rooms on our page Our Studios.
6. Flexible booking: by the day or by the project
Some recordings take a day, while other productions, such as a dubbed series or an audiobook, run for several weeks. A good studio adapts to your schedule. Our control rooms and recording booths can be booked by the day or for longer production periods.
7. Your talent is in Munich, your team is abroad?
International productions often need to record an actor or voice artist who lives in or near Munich, for example for ADR, a voice-over or a pick-up session. In that case, the talent comes to our studio while your director and producers join remotely via Source-Connect or SessionLink, listening in high quality and giving direction in real time. We deliver the files in the formats your post-production team needs.
8. Location, access and atmosphere
A session is only truly successful when everyone feels comfortable. Our studio is located on Hofmannstraße in Munich-Obersendling and is wheelchair accessible, with an elevator and a ramp. The large lounge offers space for breaks, meetings and clients attending the session.
